Safety & system access
Liwu uses one signed local helper for charging targets and lid-closed Keep Awake. Its approval is visible in System Settings.
Product specification for Liwu 2.2.5 updated September 24, 2026
Why privileged access is required
Charging and lid-closed Keep Awake use a signed local helper. Without Sailing, targets from 80% use the native system interface. Lower targets, calibration, and Sailing require verified firmware support and readback checks. Menu bar organization separately needs Accessibility and Screen Recording; icon images remain on your Mac.
What the helper can do
The helper has a narrow local role:
- Read battery and adapter state.
- Submit native 80–100% targets and supported 20–79% firmware targets with readback checks.
- Apply and verify a supported Sailing interval, including its lower and upper endpoints.
- Run target plans, calibration cycles, and Keep Awake while their runtime requirements are met.
- Accept requests only from the correctly signed Liwu app.
What leaves your Mac
The privileged helper makes no network requests. The app itself uses only these product services:
- The Liwu appcast to check for updates.
- GitHub Releases when you choose to download an update.
- Liwu's signed revoked-license list.
- A one-time license claim after a completed Pro purchase.
Battery readings, charging configuration, schedules, icon screenshots, and app usage data stay on your Mac. Icon captures are held in memory and are not uploaded. The app contains no usage telemetry.
Running, sleeping, and quitting
| Close a window | Liwu stays in the menu bar. Plans and any active calibration continue. |
|---|---|
| Sleep | The last applied target remains subject to macOS and firmware behavior. Calibration does not count sleeping time as active observation; missed plans follow catch-up settings on wake. |
| Choose Quit | Liwu sends a release request and exits promptly. The helper attempts to remove Liwu-owned firmware limits and request the native 100% target. This is not a guarantee of immediate charging. |
| Reopen Liwu | Liwu checks current hardware state and any incomplete transitions before writing. Calibration interrupted by app or helper termination does not resume automatically. |
Stop and uninstall Liwu
Quit Liwu to request release of its charging control and reveal grouped menu icons. If release cannot be confirmed, follow the recovery notice when reopening Liwu. Before moving the app to Trash, unregister its background items with the command below.
